Kommando-South Africa'--willemjacobusviljoenjunior 13:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

It refers to a civil reserve military unit in South Africa. In the past pre-republic times(Before 31/05/1961) it was a unit for self defence. It was commanded by a Velkornet(equal in rank to a Lieutenant) within a specific magistarial district. The districts combined to form ''Kommandomente"commanded by a Kommandant(Equal in rank to Major). All the Kommandomente were centrally commanded by a Kommandant-Generaal in the former Boer Republics.

It eventually evolved into a military unit used for self defence of farms in rural areas,to help police with maintenance of law and order and to serve as a functional civil reserve(semi-permanent).

Currently the units are disbanded.

Unfocused[edit]

This article is currently a hodge-podge of different meanings. Either it should be broken up into separate articles if they could support expansion past a definition or stub (like the WW II camp annex meaning could) or changed to parenthetical disambig terms and then redirected to existing articles, or a section of an article. There is already a disambig page at Kommando (disambiguation), and to a certain extent, this just seems like a wordy version of a disambig page. Conceivably it could be a WP:BCA, but I think WP:SPLIT, WP:PARENDIS, and WP:REDIRECT is a better approach. In its current state, it is just a confusion of multiple senses. • I don't think there's a broad concept here. WP:BCA states:

There are some common tests that can be used to determine whether an article can potentially be considered a broad concept article. One of these is "expert" test: could a person reasonably represent themselves as an expert in [name of page], without having to be an expert in multiple fields of knowledge (i.e. without having degrees from different departments in the typical university)?

Hard to imagine anyone expert in both "special police and military forces in German, Dutch, and Afrikaans speaking nations" and also forced laborers in Nazi concentration camps, without them being expert in multiple topic areas. buidhe 20:34, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If this refers (as the first sentence seems to point at) at the same concept as Commando, then it should be merged or redirected there as an {{r from alternative language}}/{{r from alternative spelling}}... The rest is probably WP:NOTDICT RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 00:06, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Buidhe and RandomCanadian: I had lost track of this, but it's back on my radar. Since we talked, there's been nothing significant added to the article. I'm interpreting your responses as roughly, "yes, it's unfocused", possibly with different ideas about what to do about it. At this point, I plan to redirect it to Kommando (disambiguation). As far as content, I don't think there's anything here not already covered in other articles, so nothing to merge. If no objection, I'll go ahead with this.
