discuss merge, don't just act on your own, ignoring all those who worked on it previously

[edit]

A lot of people worked on this page. If you wish to discuss a merger, do so here. Don't just go off on your own, and replace the article with a redirect simply because you don't like character pages. Dream Focus 22:48, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not necessary to discuss a bold merge of an unnotable character. Its not a controversial procedure. Nothing wrong with character pages that prove their notability, but merging a character that fails the policy WP:N is not controversial. Objecting to the merge/redirect will most likely see that page at AfD, which is compeltely unnecessary. At least now it point's you to an appropriate page, and AfD might delete the article all together without a redirect. Dandy Sephy (talk) 04:17, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing was merged in this case, so it is incorrect to say that a merge was done. I do think the current paragraph in the characters page is sufficient, so changing this page to a redirect is fine in my opinion. Despite this, I disagree with you that it is not a controversial procedure. This page was created a year and a half ago, and has had several editors, so some people are clearly going to disagree with redirecting it without merging any of the content. I think in such a situation it is appropriate to at least leave a comment stating why none of the content was merged. While it may have also seemed obvious to TheFarix when he made the edit, again, I don't think it would be obvious to the various editors of this page why none of the content was merged. Also, I want to mention that I undid the similar change to the Negi Springfield page, and I think that is a different situation. As the main character in the series, I think he would have too little description if the page was redirected without a merge (he has almost nothing written about him in the character page right now). I'm not going to dwell on it too much as we agree the action makes sense, but People simply disagreeing doesn't necessarily make it controversial (admittedly theres a difference between editors being inexperienced and performing inappropriate actions, this would be the former if there was a reaction). In this case, the action and justification isn't controversial (bold and to policy and established procedure ), but I can see why some may see it as such if they ahd worked on it. On the other hand, at some point most of the character pages will need merging for much the same reasons, in which case a discussion would most likely be advisable (but not necessarily essential!) due to the number of the changes. Although I'd say Negi Springfield is probably controversial, but thats a discussion for elsewhere (reliable 3rd party notability still needs to be proven, main character or not) Dandy Sephy (talk) 16:11, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
