Requested move / discussion of title

[edit]

(heading added 8 Jan 2007, together with the move to Kunti request)

Why is does Kunti have the title Queen? This is like changing Rama to King Rama and Krishna and Lord Krishna. GizzaChat © 04:52, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. it's weird. Move it back.--D-Boy 10:46, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Queen Kunti is specifically known as such in the Puranas - I was thinking the article name identified her from other people also named Kunti that might warrant an article in future. I wouldn't have said it was honorific as in Lord Krishna or Sri Rama? Ys, Gouranga(UK) 19:31, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What is the Sanskrit word for queen? Is it Rani (I know it is Raja for king) like in Hindi? And is that word always mentioned with Kunti in all the Puranas that talk about her? If so, it may be okay. Otherwise we later on move this page to "Kunti (Mahabharata)" Even Krishna in the Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam is referred to commonly as Shribhagawan, Ishvara (Supreme Personality of Godhead!) just as Arjun is called Kaunteya (son of Kunti). Some devotees of Krishna might use another name of his more often like Gopal or Govind. GizzaChat © 09:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've checked in the Sanskrit and it just says 'kunti' in all the instances I could find. I'm thinking of Prabhupada's books where he almost exclusively prefixes her name with the title of queen or describes her as Kuntidevi. This does lean towards it being more of an honorific title. Your idea of having Kunti (Mahabharata) sounds like a good one for the future, if the need arises, or Kunti (Pandavas) or similar? Cheers, Gouranga(UK) 21:40, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is interesting that you mention that because I have one of his books called "teachings of Queen Kunti!" If no other acharya refers to Kunti with Queen in English, I think we should change it back. We can say that some gurus use the title Queen in front of her name. Should we put a King or Prince in front of her husband Pandu? GizzaChat © 00:17, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Change it back. There is no significant scope for confusion, not enough to warrant a disamb page, let alone the prefix. Imc 10:29, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also in agreement on moving the current article to Kunti. Regards, Gouranga(UK) 14:24, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - Looks fairly non-controversial to me. -146.186.210.78 20:45, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed the move that was requested at WP:RM, per the above consensus. Cheers. -GTBacchus(talk) 07:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
