Propose to move to Kuppali
[edit]The birth place of KuVemPu is Kuppali, a word in Kannada derived from the word Kuppalisu (see the official website. Most references to the place including the one working in the References section of this page, call it Kuppali. Would therefore like to move it to Kuppali, and replace all references to Kuppalli with Kuppali. Sdsouza 16:15, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Moved to Kuppali. Thanks - KNM Talk 17:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Proposal to move it back to Kuppalli
[edit]The town is more known by the name Kuppalli than Kuppali. A search on Google for Kuppalli yielded 1700 results whereas Kuppali yielded 300 results. Moreover most of the Kannada news items on Kuppalli use the name Kuppalli than Kuppali. I think it is Wikipedia's convention to use the most common name for the webpage title. I propose to move the page back to Kuppalli. Amarrg 06:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Good point. Actually, there is a discussion going on in India topics related notice-board, on this item. Like, how should the articles be named. There is a proposal to consider the name based on popular media like newspapers and websites (The Hindu, Times of India, NDTV, etc). In the present context, we will need to determine which spelling is most commonly used. We can consider Deccan Herald, Vijay Times and Indian Express which have relatively higher circulation in Karnataka. Also, IMO, it makes sense to see which among ಕುಪ್ಪಳ್ಳಿ (Kuppalli) and ಕುಪ್ಪಳಿ (Kuppali) is most commonly used in Kannada media. As per the previous proposal and movement, the original and actual name of the village is Kuppali. But, time for reconsidering the name based on usage. Any references on either or both the names would help this discussion. - KNM Talk 07:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
How come Kuppalli is the birthplace of Kuvempu when he was born in Hirekodige? Shouldn't this to be corrected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.231.206.5 (talk) 13:53, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
