Meaning of Kapellmeister

[edit]

For the life of me I cannot figure out what "Kapellmeister" translates to. I assume it is something close to "conductor" or "music director", but assumptions aren't very useful on Wikipedia. Meister translates to "master" but I've not the foggiest what the combination means. It'd be great if someone could shed some light on this! I ask because I think it would be good if a translation of the meaning of it could be added after its first mention in the intro paragraph. CaptainEek (talk) 19:55, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking information on recordings

[edit]

This article is slowly building. One area not discussed is his the list of his recordings, which is extensive. One of the External links includes one that has a list of recordings. The German Wikipedia article lists recordings, one place to start for ideas. --Prairieplant (talk) 07:13, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of the German term Kapellmeister

[edit]

Literal : Chapel Master Note in German the term Kapelle can have several meanings 1. Orchestra Group

                            2. A small church ( like in Chapel )

By meaning : Music Master

Master Music Director ( IMO best description in the context / meaning of this article, the person and his function, his title given )

Also : orchestra Director

        Master Orchestra Director
        Master Musician of the Orchestra
        Chief of the Orchestra
Leader of the Orchestra Ggdscot (talk) 14:11, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How is Kapellmeister? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:44, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I knew someone had to know the answer, you've been most helpful. I didn't realize there was a Wikipedia page on the topic already; I'll just make kapellmeister into an internal link. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:10, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
