A far more important event from the village's history is reported by the U.S. Department of State here:

In the village of Kvemo Bargebi, the Ochamchira unit of the Abkhaz militia beat prisoners with rods, burned them with hot knives and bayonets, stabbed them, and set their bodies on fire. The Abkhaz militia killed 28 persons, most of whom were tortured to death (see Section 1.a.). Despite the claims of Abkhaz authorities, there is no evidence that the perpetrators have been punished for these atrocities.
