Role of Roger McMurrin

[edit]

Hello Gerda Arendt, Thank you for your research on the history of the orchestra before 2018. I wanted to include it in the German article. In the current form, though, Robert McMurrin is stated as the founder. However, according to the sources, he only came to Ukraine in the early 1990s, while the orchestra was founded in 1979. I read the sources as meaning that he took over the existing orchestra and turned it into a show orchestra in the intervening period, right? --Ganescha (talk) 07:39, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the same problem, and possibly there were two orchestras of the same - general - name. On the other hand "in the 1980s" is very vague, so not really a contradiction. Looks to me as if they don't remember themselves when they began ;) - I like the connection to Messiah as a first project but am not sure enough to include it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I imagine that following the breakup of the Soviet Union, bookeeping records may not have been as accurate as originally thought. Howerver, it may be that Roger McMurrin formally organised them as a full-time orchestra as opposed to being a group of local musicians (as the source in McMurrin's page ascribes them to be). But I think that's just speculation. I guess we can mention the foundation as unknown and mention both foundation dates/stories. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:14, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
