Notable?

[edit]

Wikipedia has particular notability standards for inclusion as a stand-alone article. Is this subject notable on their own, or only in connection with Mick Jagger? If the latter, this article should be merged into his. --Zippy 18:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked at the IMDB links for Scott, and these support an argument for notability. --Zippy 19:44, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Her only claims to fame lie in the fact that she's over six feet tall and that she dates Mick Jagger. If not for the latter, nobody in the world would even know she exists.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:24, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If the article could be expanded so as to indicate her notability the template could then be removed.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:42, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article has improved

[edit]

The article looks much better now.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 15:55, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've spent time adding more information gleaned from various articles. I hope to flesh out the facts a bit, so that people have a better idea of who L'Wren was, and the contributions she made to fashion. Birth name/family information

[edit]

Is there a source for the information regarding her family/birth name? It's not sourced at the moment. As such, it should be removed, no? --Mottad

Kidman seems to be her most famous client/client who uses her the most. Should we mention this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.63.147 (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bio contains much that is verifiably FALSE

[edit]

The purpose of Wikipedia isn't the dissemination of lies. (Is it?) THAT is vandalism, and NOT "good faith", if you're going to throw that phrase around. The lies here are pretty offensive to those from the same Mormon background, who know the truth and tend to speak it. L'Wren Scott's given name is Luann. It's not just some "nickname." Official papers were filed in Los Angeles County Court on September 22, 2006 formalizing the official name change from the very official original name. This is in public databases. Again, NOT a nickname folks. In addition, L'Wren Scott's birthday is April 28, 1964. Her siblings Jan Shane and Randall Bambrough can confirm this. Her mother's name was Lula (hence Luann). Luann/"L'Wren" graduated from and appears in Roy High School's yearbook, a senior in the graduating class of 1982, which is also appropriate to her REAL AGE. Several newspapers have reported this date, but it also appears in databases as well.

Now, unless you're looking to have her real birth date posted with all relevant citations, I suggest you correct what's here and omit the false birth date if you'd like. But this stuff that you keep reinstating IS false. Here are just a few relevant citations:

--July 26, 2003 story from the Daily Mail by Nicole Lampert where a reporter was sent to Utah to interview her mother, who gave her adoption year as 1964.

--April 29, 2010 Brit paper The Evening Standard says "last night," meaning April 28, the family celebrated L'Wren's birthday and there was some kind of party.

--The Daily Mail for a long time continually ran L'Wren's correct age, with no corrections: Age 35 in a story from 2002; 36 in the story in which her own adoptive mother was interviewed in 2003, 38 in a 2004 story. Only in the past few years has the age been dropping like a thermometer.Nov 07 - Aug 09 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.148.209 (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So she legally changed her name to L'Wren Scott in 2006? 50.74.152.2 (talk) 17:04, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also her height. Seen her standing to 178 Jagger. No way that she is 191. If she was, then in heels, this would be more probable:

Might I suggest changing it and adding sources? The Daily Mail is considered by some not to be a reliable source, but I'd think it's probably fine in this case, especially if there are other references giving the same information. Perhaps you'd also like to post links to the articles you mention above here first. Also, try to keep a calm head when posting and remember that using capitals is considered to be shouting, and tends to be ignored by some people because of this. Yes, absolutely agree with Paul. If you have sources, please include links. Thank you. -easywriter101 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Easywriter101 (talkcontribs) 18:45, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

1982 Roy High School

[edit]

She may have been in the Roy High School (Roy, Utah) class of 1982 as Luann Bambrough. See this site: https://www.alumniclass.com/high-school-alumni-classmates/utah/roy/440?page=2 50.74.152.2 (talk) 17:15, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

She was found dead on March 17th. Too soon to put that as the date of death. She may have died over the weekend.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.109.110.247 (talk) 17:36, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

March 17 is the date of her death. Before she killed herself, she texted her assistant at 8:30am on March 17 to come over, according to this article http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/wren-scott-fashion-designer-found-dead-hanging-apartment-cops-article-1.1724198 50.74.152.2 (talk) 17:54, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
N.B. She could have been murdered and her killer is the one who texted her assistant. --anon. 71.183.139.60 (talk) 13:24, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
N.N.B. She might have been a Soviet spy called Oleg who had extensive plastic surgery and a sex change in order to infiltrate the Rolling Stones, and then after being found out was accidentally killed by a humanoid alien from Betelgeuse called Alfred. But then again, she might not have been.74.242.161.34 (talk) 10:14, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Supposed date of birth

[edit]

Someone has put April 28, 1964 as Scott's date of birth. However, there is no source that backs that up. 50.74.152.2 (talk) 19:20, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

See a) July 26, 2003 story from the Daily Mail by Nicole Lampert where a reporter was sent to Utah to interview her mother, who gave her adoption year as 1964 and b) April 29, 2010 The Evening Standard says "last night," meaning April 28, the family celebrated L'Wren's birthday and there was some kind of party. Quis separabit? 19:22, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The L'Wren Scott page currently says her birth date is April 28, 1967 and April 28, 1964. Which is right?
With women, usually the earlier year. Quis separabit? 19:28, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
She could have been adopted a different year than she was born.50.74.152.2 (talk) 19:23, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For me, the following (pointed out above) are enough for now, but I'll add fact tag(s):
* July 26, 2003 story from the Daily Mail by Nicole Lampert where a reporter was sent to Utah to interview her mother, who gave her adoption year as 1964
* April 29, 2010 The Evening Standard says "last night," meaning April 28, the family celebrated L'Wren's birthday...
Quis separabit? 19:28, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

yes but she probably was not adopted 3 years before she was born24.0.133.234 (talk) 19:30, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Only if you buy 1967 as the year of birth, which I don't. Quis separabit? 19:33, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Um, you are agreeing with the comment to which you replied. --anon.71.183.139.60 (talk) 06:21, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Considering that Mormons believe a person can be converted to Mormonism posthumously, I wouldn't be surprised if she was. --anon.71.183.139.60 (talk) 06:21, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The New York Daily News article says she was 47 when she died. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/wren-scott-fashion-designer-found-dead-hanging-apartment-cops-article-1.1724198 50.74.152.2 (talk) 19:32, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is far from dispositive or definitive. Quis separabit? 19:33, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So is a Daily Mail article :) .... I googled and can't find the Daily Mail article that supposedly has Scott's mother say she adopted Scott in 1964. 50.74.152.2 (talk) 19:34, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

These articles say she was 49 years old:

50.74.152.2 (talk) 19:39, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see that line in that article now. Its headline and the last sentence of its first paragraph state simply that she was 49. (By the way, note that it's written by a Bruce Weber, but not the photographer, presumably.) --anon. 71.183.139.60 (talk) 13:19, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Her name

[edit]

Where did her name come from? At what age did she change it? Why? Motive? Does it mean anything? Have any significance? Seems a strange name to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.80.214 (talk) 22:51, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to The Daily Beast: "In 1985, just after she turned 18, the frustrated future fashionista changed her name to something not quite so...regional, and set off for Paris." From that, I gather "Luann" is a more rural American name and this worldly minded woman wanted something more fancy. "L'Wren" is a take on "Lauren". (Added to article.) — Wyliepedia 04:37, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Relation with Jagger

[edit]

I arrived here to learn about her relationship with Jager - when it started, any details - but the article says nothing. Was this done intentionally to prevent an AfD based on inheritance? Or is there just nothing about it in the sources? -- GreenC 17:23, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Discovery" by Bruce Weber

[edit]

I am bothered by our wording "discovered by" photographer Bruce Weber at a Calvin Klein hosiery photo shoot. I know there is a source in Vogue, but "discovered' seems to me as a long stretch, as if he was single-handedly responsible for her early fame in Paris. werldwayd (talk) 22:20, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? What definition of discover do you have in mind? The English-language Wiktionary contradicts you. Dyspeptic skeptic (talk) 23:37, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Laura or Luann?

[edit]

We have conflicting sources that give her name as either Laura or Luann. It's been changed over a couple of times in the artile, so we should try to ascertain which is correct. Was she perhaps named Laura and nicknamed Luann? That was the impression I had from reading an obituary in the Telegraph, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts? Paul MacDermott (talk) 14:46, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have not found any references to "Laura," in every obituary, she has been referred to as Luann. If someone can come up with a birth certificate, that would settle it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Easywriter101 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just added information on the article about her relationships. Easywriter101 (talk) 01:13, 15 December 2014 (UTC)easywriter101[reply]
