Third world country quote?[edit]

Is that a direct quote from the program? It's kind of a derogatory term. If it's not a direct quote I think it should be removed and replaced with "Non-Western". I'm sure it was big news in it's region. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:5521:A410:E4C3:C89:94C4:F10D (talk) 22:58, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redundancy[edit]

I have removed the table which listed the same information as the text twice now. Rather than restoring it, I thought it might be good to discuss it here. Is there any reason to have the same information twice? It's hard to see... --John (talk) 16:11, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Poor weather[edit]

Do heavy rainfalls occur at 38 thousand feet altitude ?Tallewang (talk) 04:59, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bad weather is mentioned in most articles on the crash, but the bad weather seems to have set in only after the crash, hampering search and rescue work. The weather at the time of the crash was excellent according to several sources, such as http://avherald.com/h?article=46c3abde&opt=0 and https://www.facebook.com/pirotsofthenamibian. --Wimneel (talk) 23:42, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First crash for the Emb-190?[edit]

Dear wikipedians, can anyone confirm if this is the first crash for this type of airplane? And if not, is thsi the first fatal crash for the Emb-190? Thanks & regards, DPdH (talk) 08:40, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is apparently not the first fatal crash for the E190:

Times[edit]

The article currently states "The aircraft departed Maputo at 11:26 local time (09:26 UTC) and was due to land three hours later". I have tagged the latter as dubious, as one of the cited sources gives the due time as 12:10 GMT, not 12:26. An error of 16 minutes in a 164 minute flight is a significant error, of ~10%. I had entered the actual time, but this has been removed more than once, with a different, or no, reason given on each occasion. It should, of course, be restored. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:46, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have now corrected it. FonEengIneeR7 talk 19:18, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You have changed it to "under three hours later", which is imprecise. You have not restored the actual scheduled arrival time. Quite why you persist in trying to reduce the accuracy of the article in this way is still not clear. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be an error due to the assumption that Maputo local time is the same as Luanda local, whereas there is actually an hour's difference. The BBC ref gives "11:26 local time (09:26 GMT)" as take-off time and scheduled arrival "in the Angolan capital, Luanda, at 14:10" - but 14:10 West African Time (Angola) is 13:10 UTC. This is confirmed by the Aviation Herald ref which gives "scheduled arrival at 14:10L, 13:10Z". The flight was due to last 3 hours 44 minutes. As these times seem prone to misinterpretation, I've somewhat pedantically spelled out in full what the flight's timings were intended to be in the article. There is a clear need for this degree of precision in ensuring that information is accurately perceived, and I reject the assertion in FonEengIneeR7's edit summary that it is "not noteworthy", so please don't remove it without discussing here first. --RexxS (talk) 17:45, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I agree on that but what is really useless to say is in how many minutes' time the aircraft was scheduled to arrive. It is sufficient to state the act. dep. time and the sked. arrival time. FonEengIneeR7 talk 18:33, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well as long as we have the accurate times for departure and scheduled arrival, a reader can work out for themselves how long the flight was and put the timing of the crash at 11:30 UTC into perspective, so you're probably right to try to keep the lead as concise as we can. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 00:41, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copture[edit]

I removed a paragraph from the Response and Investigation section which read like a press release for the company which mapped the crash site. It was initially added by the founder and CEO of the company. Cerenkovic (talk) 09:54, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
