political climate for repeal of anti-sodomy law[edit]

The section "criminal code" states that, given the current political climate, a change to repeal Section 377 is unlikely. This statement was added in September 2007. However, this assertion is not actually supported by the citation provided, which does nothing more than provide the text of Section 377.

Nine years later, it's easy to say that this statement was accurate, but it may be problematic to identify a clearly neutral source that can support whether or not this is true at the current time. Perhaps the statement should just be changed to state that the law has not been repealed in spite of the efforts of particular groups advocating for such a change. The text seems to quote the law, but is not marked as a quotation. The wording seems strange. Does section 377 really read "Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse with any man, woman or animal..."? That would outlaw heterosexual intercourse. I found another version[1] that has "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" (whatever that is supposed to be) Seems more likely but it's from 2004 and not an authoritative source.--92.214.176.241 (talk) 18:59, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Tee hee! Seven years later and I am back at this article. I came across this Times of India article about Section 377 (under Indian law). However India has modified the law, that obviously is independent of Myanmar's current version of Section 377. Fabrickator (talk) 04:44, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
