15 or 16 rebuilds

[edit]

There is a comment in the article text, "Fifteen Class As (16 according to the LNWR Society) were converted to Class C". In fact there were only 15 rebuilds from Class A, but prototype no. 2524 (built 1892) was considered by some historians to be a member of Class C, so this would be the sixteenth loco. This loco had a non-standard boiler, and when it was eventually given a standard boiler in 1906, this was of the larger varieety and so it became a Class D. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
