Please give a brief explanation of why the award is notable, preferably with reliable sources. J Milburn (talk) 17:48, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If one would take some time to understand Coast Guard Aviation culture they would discover that this is indeed a national award that is highky prestigious in CG aviation. This is a an award for aircrew members, that is, the enlisted members of the aircrew. It is held in extremely high regard, note that it is mentioned in the bio of the former Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Eric A. Trent. It is more desired, sought after, and more prestigious than some established military awards such as a USCG Commandant's Letter of Commendation Ribbon or an Achievement Medal. This award is of particular importance in the area of Coast Guard Aviation and Coast Guard Aviation History. Cliffwalk (talk) 16:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that someone stated that it is not found often in google or google news. I daresay that if that is the requirement for introducing an item into Wikipedia that most things of importance are not found in google or google news. Cliffwalk (talk) 16:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In addition it recieves a much larger section of the Coast Guard Awards Manuual than the other awards mentioned above. It is a sad day when it is by popularity on google that something is determined to have significant lasting value.Cliffwalk (talk) 16:34, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The recipients of this award that I have had the pleasure to come across are the epitome of what it means to be a Coast Guard aircrew member. They are the best of the best!Cliffwalk (talk) 16:34, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
