The article has a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas, and may lack a key element such as a standard infobox. since this article has been rated "start class", any ideas on how the article can be improved?[edit]

perhaps adding a box that situates the novel within the layout of the rougon-macquart series?
adding pictures:
- some covers of the novel (library thing[1] has plenty)
- pictures of the haussmanian restructuring of paris at the time (the Bibliothèque Nationale de France should have some)
- a picture of Émile Zola
adding links?
reorganizing the article and updating subheadings?
