So many myths in so many restaurant articles[edit]

I do not have time to correct all the nonsense in articles on French restaurants, such as this one and the one on Laperouse (founded in fact in 1870). Suffice it to say that Vefour's is probably the only Parisian restaurant which can document its origin to before the nineteenth century.

The word bistro does not appear until the end of the nineteenth century, so the myth that Cossack soldiers originated the word is readily disproven.

What is most dismaying here is that the writers of these articles clearly have documented their articles carefully - using published sources which themselves pass on nonsense.

Anyone who might want to fact check these articles can start by going to gallica.bnf.fr (it helps if you read French) and searching for the places in question before the nineteenth century (Laperouse was a famous navigator, so you'll find him, but not the restaurant, earlier).
