Request name change and page move

[edit]

This would be better as La damnation de Faust to bring it in line with Berlioz's other works at Wikipedia which are given under their French titles (except Harold in Italy - currently - but we're requesting a move there too). --Folantin 08:55, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support. The words are practically identical in translation, and both pieces are almost never referred to in their English translation in biographies other texts on the pieces, and I've rarely seen them translated even in everyday chat. The translation, in addition to being inconsistent with the rest of his work names, means that the internal linking to the main pages (without using redirects) is unneccesseraly complicated - and it will continue to have to be done until the page names are changed, as referring to them by their English translations just looks messy in the context of a full article. I will paste the same reply in both talk pages, as the reasoning is identical for both. Lethe 09:01, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only correct French title would be La Damnation de Faust, as per fr:WP:TYPOE. Problem is, I can't move the article to its proper French title, as I should according to the English WP own rules... Rather silly, ain't it, since there is absolutely no dispute about the French capitalization rules in this respect? Azurfrog (talk) 12:29, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Names of scenes and characters

[edit]

The names of some of the scenes and characters used here in their English translations diverge somewhat from literal translations (and indeed from what is normally shown as the English translation in scores of the work). For example, the "devil princes" are called the "Princes of Darkness" in the scores that we are using (Vocal score, Bärenreiter 1993 Edition). Many of the English scene names I have never heard being used and are not obvious from the French names -- I had to work hard to figure out to which scene these names related. Perhaps including the scene name in French would also be appropriate? 137.222.10.57 (talk) 09:11, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation

[edit]

Please see the discussion here at the Hector Berlioz talk page. Is is all right if I move the La damnation de Faust page to La Damnation de Faust, according to the consensus there? Tim riley talk 20:26, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Such a move would not be supported by WP:OPERATITLE#Operas: capitalization and diacritics or MOS:FRANCE#Capitalization, section "Chicago Manual of Style (sentence case) method". -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:59, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
