doi:10.1016/S2213-8587(13)70154-2 discusses the lactate shuttle paradigm in stress hyperlactatemia, including empirical evidence that the anaerobic metabolism theory doesn't hold and that much of hyperlactataemia seen in clinical practice is related to catecholamine-induced glycolysis.
