[edit]"Despite the dangers of travel in the interior, an 1865 parliamentary committee on the west coast of Africa was informed that Lagos was at no risk from Abeokuta for two reasons. First, the people of Abeokuta were too intelligent to make such an attack. Second, although Abeokuta had 1,000 canoes used for trading with Lagos, it had no war canoes, and even if it did, they could never storm the well-defended island from across the lagoon.[1]"
Okaaaaayy...First, how did a parliamentary committee even look into this? Next: war canoes? Requires elaboration. Third, poster child for evils of passive tense. WHO informed the committee? Fourth, um really? seems like that island was attacked plenty of times? Can someone please rewrite? Thanks xoxox Elinruby (talk) 00:34, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
