Name[edit]

What does the team's name mean? "Lahore" is obvious, but "Badshahs"? --Dweller (talk) 12:41, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Does this: Badshah help? =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:05, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Somewhat... (NB that article should be kept/updated from this one) Do they speak Persian in Lahore? Or is it a foreign language term commonly used in that part of the world? --Dweller (talk) 13:09, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've expanded the article a bit. No, Urdu is spoken in Pakistan. Urdu is a relatively newer language that borrows heavily from Hindi/Sanskrit and Persian. A person speaking Hindi can easily understand and communicate with a person who knows Urdu and vice-versa. There are many common words present in Hindi and Persian— Persian used to be the court language of the Mughals and educated class up to the 19th century in northern India. Words common to Hindi and other languages include terms such as azadi badshah. See also Indo-European languages =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:22, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great. This makes more sense now. --Dweller (talk) 13:27, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
