A fact from Lake Abita appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 10 August 2010 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:

Did you know... that Minnesota's highest lake, Lake Abita, is only 12 miles away from its lowest lake, Lake Superior?

Discrepancy[edit]

The opening says that the lake is Minnesota's ninth highest. The Topography section says that it is the highest.

The page was written using sources which may or may not have been outdated by further surveys. The original survey of the greater Misquah Hills region erred significantly in assigning the state's land high point, so I had begun developing a suspicion about whether that could be an issue with the measure of the highest lake as well. I'd very much like to see the actual data used to assign Abita position 9, but the present source appears to link merely to the metadata, not the actual survey data.
