"Lake Apopka is one of the largest lakes in Florida in the United States."

A "Clacker" factory located amoung the muck farms that bordered Lake Apopka are also considered in the death of birds. Ingredients of their composition were spread by intentional flood waters and could have contributed to wildlife poisoning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.120.181.242 (talk) 18:16, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Third largest Lake in Florida: Lake Apopka or Lake Kissimmee?

[edit]

There appears to be some contradiction in Wikipedia with respect to this ranking. The surface area of Lake Apopka is listed at 125 km2, while Lake Kissimmee is listed at 141.43 km2. However, the text states that Lake Apopka ranks third. Both of these lakes are smaller than Lake Okeechobee (obviously), and Lake George, at 186.17 km2. I'm aware of the earlier farmland reclamation projects that have occurred, which have increased Lake Apopka's surface area. Also, Lake Kissimmee has five islands which lie within it, most notably, Brahma and Sturm Islands, which take up a decent chunk of surface area. So does the 141.43 km2 figure for Lake Kissimmee not take into account the surface area of the 5 islands, or does the 125 km2 listed for Lake Apopka not take into account some additional increase in surface area?
