More customers bad for business?

[edit]

The article currently says:

The closure of the bridge has caused economic hardship; a private ferry service about 15 miles (24 km) south of the bridge has been overwhelmed, while the other service (about 25 miles (40 km) north of the bridge) has expanded its hours of operation. The state of New York started providing subsidies to the two private ferry services.

This seems to say the two ferry services have had a sudden large increase in customers. While there may be a struggle to accommodate the new business, revenues should be increasing. So how is this an "economic hardship" and why would they need an additional handout from the state? The article could be improved by explaining these matters, if someone knows the answers. 68.110.104.80 (talk) 22:24, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's simply that the ferry services—even with extra hours—cannot come close to carrying the traffic the bridge did. So, all the commuters, and the local business that depended on them are in trouble. —MJBurrage(TC) 22:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, since the toll-free bridge was closed, the state was paying the fares for ferry users. --'Triskele Jim (talk) 16:52, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Richelieu River crossing

[edit]

The description of this bridge contains incorrect information. There is a second bridge that connects VT and NY in the northern part of both states. This bridge connects Rouses Point, NY and Alburgh, VT. This articles states that it actually crosses the Richelieu River. This is very, very wrong and needs to be updated. That bridge does in fact cross Lake Champlain and it is even stated in the Wikipedia Lake Champlain article. I am a resident of Northern VT and it's frustrating to see incorrect information regarding anything in my state. I urge anybody who feels that this bridge spans the Richelieu to contact the Selectboard members of either town that the bridge connects. My next step is to bring this to their attention and have them deal with it. This really makes me wonder about the accuracy of Wikipedia as a whole.

Based on your comments and the fact that the reference used was unclear, I removed the sentence saying that the 2nd bridge crosses the Richelieu River.
As for your other comments - You do not seem to understand basics about Wikipedia. This is a project fueled by volunteers that ideally use reliable sources to verify all information. Unfortunately, in a project this huge, there are bound to be a ton of mistakes. Inserting correct information and fixing the mistakes in task that will never be complete, but we're trying our best. Thank you for your input. --CutOffTies (talk) 15:51, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
