Not unique[edit]

I removed the following sentence from the first paragraph:

It was unique amongst the pre-grouping companies in that its main traffic flow was to and from east and west.

As stated, this is clearly false: what about the Great Western Railway! I can guess what was intended here, but it needs to be rephrased, and, importantly for any claims of uniqueness, needs to be backed up by an explicit reference.--Dr Greg (talk) 18:17, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway until late in its career. I note that there is nothing in this article about the company's works and its locomotives apart from a paragrah about livery. 86.145.167.29 (talk) 12:44, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a start-class article - it will likely be riddled with errors, and hardly anything is cited with references. If you have relevant published material (I do not) it would be lovely if you could contribute. I only have this article on my watchlist as I have a general interest in the history around Manchester. 1922 amalgamation[edit]

Two points.

A frequent contributor to these pages has made a comment that the 1922 amalgamation was not total, but only a working arrangement. That should be in this article. Could someone find a citation in support?
If you already know the subject, then this page is not for you. But if you don't know it, the page needs to tell you the answer to obvious questions. "It amalgamated with the London and North Western Railway on 1 January 1922." Q: What was the name of the combined company?

Yes I know it's obvious to insiders, but the page is for other people.

Marshall citation[edit]
