Info needed

[edit]
  • 598 counties in Australia is based on: 141 (NSW) + 49 (SA) + 26 (WA) (the Nat. Library says 25 but the maps say 26) + 322 (Qld) + 5 (NT) + 18 (Tas) + 37 (Vic) = 598. This is a calculation I have made from the sources listed, it would be good to have this confirmed.
  • Also needed is a map and names of the 322 counties currently in Qld mentioned at [1], although I wonder why the stub articles we have now for County of Stanley, Queensland, County of Ward, Queensland and County of Canning, Queensland seem to refer to the old counties. Perhaps the "new" counties never took on. found here: [2]
  • Also need to add 8 more counties from the 1893 map to the South Australia map, and find map of the location of the last four three counties of SA. (found Buxton on 1897 map)
  • Also need an explanation as to what the County of Norman (nourman?) on that 1893 map is. It is not listed at the counties of SA.
  • Another thing to find out is the early counties of Tasmania. There were at least three systems of subdivisions in Van Dieman's Land; the eighteen counties which cover the whole island which were used in the late nineteenth century and in some of the earlier maps; then there some early maps which show 36 counties covering a strip between Hobart and Launceston; then there are some other areas shown on quite a few maps which dont cover the west of the island - called Launceston, Norfolk Plains, Cambelltown, Clyde, Oatlands, Oyster Bay, New Norfolk, Richmond and Hobart Town. See 1852 map showing the last two mentioned. Some of the 36 counties are also on the earliest map of Tas at the national library, this 1826 map
  • How many parishes would there be in total? Adding NSW (7,459) + Vic (2,914) + Qld (5,319) you get 15,692.. but this doesnt include Tas. --Astrokey44 11:52, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
