The full riot[edit]

This doesn't tell the whole story. After the riot at the grounds, the gang of C18 and their mates made their way to O'Connell Street where the police were waiting. The Guards had blocked off every side street and the intersection with Parnell Street. Once the fash arrived, they were blocked in and the Guards played whack a Nazi for a few hours (eye-witness report - I was on Parnell Street). Not sure if there are any decent sources for that part of the night's event. Donnacha (talk) 12:15, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Speculation about Combat 18, Chelsea fans and Headhunters - Deleted[edit]

Deleted speculation about Chelsea fans, Headhunters and Combat 18. There is no source to these rumours. My mate knew someone who bought a dog from a bloke down his street who met someone in a pub in Thailand in 2014 who said it was caused by Combat 18 Chelsea Headhunters is not a viable source. Provide evidence, police statements or court documents if you wish to speculate about the above. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.82.78.123 (talk) 11:37, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted more speculation and lies.[edit]

Tidied up the "match" section.

It claimed

As the national anthems of each side were being played, there was some trouble, with some Irish fans jeering "God Save The Queen", and some English fans, including members of Combat 18, chanting "Sieg Heil," "no surrender to the IRA (to the tune of the chorus line of the hymn "Oil in My Lamp")," "Ulster is British," and giving the Nazi salute as "Amhrán na bhFiann" was playing.

This is pure speculation. The entire match is on Youtube as it went out live. Jeering can be heard during National Anthems. It is impossible to hear what the English fans are chanting. It certainly does not sound like "no surrender" and there are no visible Nazi salutes. And even if this chanting took place you can not possibly tell if the people chanting were members of Combat 18.

It's not a credible source but I had three English friends that travelled out there. They were in the mix when it started. They claim that there was no nazi chanting or salutes. They didn't hear or see any English fan making any reference to Nazis or members of Combat 18. For a Wikipedia article you need sources so I am not putting this on the article as it is only a testimony from three people that were there. By the same token we can't have speculation about Combat 18 or Nazis being there unless it can be corroborated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.82.78.123 (talk) 11:48, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The myth of Combat 18 being involved.[edit]

In case anyone wants to look deeper into it please see this.

" What I am saying, now as then, is that no specific and credible substantiated names have ever been produced for C18 being inside the stadium, and the events as they unfolded undermine, rather than corroborate, fanciful claims of C18 ‘orchestrating’ the disturbance. "

Wikipedia usually follows the sources, but I'm not sure the reliability of this source - the source itself seems like an opinion/theory piece without a factual conclusion being made - more of a fringe theory. In the conclusion section, it even says that Combat 18 being involved is "eminently possible, even if the evidence for a major C18 presence is sketchy."
There are a lot of sources out there (that seem much more reliable, at least to me) that mention Combat 18 and/or neo-nazism (specifically, the BBC article that the article above references). I feel like someone should restore the cited information that has recently been deleted. There needs to be a stronger reason to delete cited information than one speculative source (or sources that don't involve original research like Youtube videos and friend's anecdotes, as shown in the section above).- Whisperjanes (talk) 15:31, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding back mention of neo-nazis & Combat 18[edit]

Information that mentions that Combat 18, neo-nazis, or right-wing militants were involved (or likely involved) in these riots has been deleted from the article. I've found some reliable sources that can be used to add the information back in.

There are actually a lot more out there, but I assume this is enough to back up that this is not a "myth" or "lies". - Whisperjanes (talk) 01:02, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't yet looked into the claim that the Chelsea Headhunters were involved, but that might need to be looked at as well in available sources. - Whisperjanes (talk) 01:09, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For easy access, here are the diffs of the deleted content - some of the info might need to be restored: [1][2][3] (thanks, Autarch, for adding some info back in already!) - Whisperjanes (talk) 01:15, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
