Larissa, Menemen

[edit]

Proposing to move the title under Larissa, Menemen for the following reasons;

  • There are at least three ancient cities by name Larissa in present-day Turkey,
  • To follow Classical Age terminology, these would be, a) Larissa in Aeolis (this one, by far the most significant), b) Larissa in Ionia, and c) Larissa in Troad,
  • The Pelasgian/Anatolian name Larissa (meaning "stronghold, citadel, wall") predates the name Aeolis and could have been a principal town of the region in the second millenium.
  • Larissa in Ionia, an insignificant ancient settlement according to the present-day knowledge, is within the boundaries of İzmir Province as well, therefore it could be useful to distinguish the two, or at least this one, on the basis of district names (or name). This all makes sense. I have begun creating the Larisa entry for the city in the Troad. Ajcee7 (talk) 14:48, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
