Time to find a new photo

[edit]

Now that Lauren Ambrose has a hip new TV series... maybe it's time for a picture that's not 20 years old? If you're having trouble finding something that meets the criteria for fair use, I don't think you're trying very hard. 96.42.32.226 (talk) 03:29, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, for living celebrities, no photo can be used as "fair use" because it is entirely possible for a photographer to take the photo and license it correctly. Fair use can be used for deceased individuals or fictional character bios, not for notable WP:BLP. Elizium23 (talk) 22:59, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sfu ep37.jpeg

[edit]

Image:Sfu ep37.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

There were a number of good modifications in the recent edit, including a good photo for the infobox instead of the clunky "external media" link that is wholly nonstandard and probably a violation of WP:ELNO. Many other improvements were made, so I am not sure why it needed to be reverted to a "good" version that wasn't so good. Elizium23 (talk) 21:25, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, the image seemed promising until it turned out to be a WP:COPYVIO... Elizium23 (talk) 22:58, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I provided an associated press link (https://apnews.com/article/jeff-daniels-benicio-del-toro-celebrity-birthdays-carlin-glynn-hip-hop-and-rap-1bded79f244db9a30fcd9c508c568d5d). Surely that has to be considered a reliable source? Firebird1619 (talk) 04:15, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I did and someone else reverted it claiming this needed to go to the talk page. I will reapply my edit again, and if it gets reverted again I will appeal accordingly. Firebird1619 (talk) 12:51, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please accept my sincere apologies Firebird1619, I didn't check your edit as thoroughly as I should have and 100% that's my fault,
My issue with this source is that they haven't stated where they've got the information from, At a guess I would say IMDB and if that is the case then this could be the same with other sources too, I have major issues with it but wont revert as I may be over-thinking this. –Davey2010Talk 13:33, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thank you. I understand the trepidation, but I've seen less reliable sources used for birthdays for other well-known people, so I do feel reasonably comfortable using this. I will update if I find a more reputable source. Firebird1619 (talk) 13:37, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Firebird1619, You're welcome, To be fair so have I and generally speaking AP is a widely-used reliable source but I can't say I don't have my doubts here, Thank you for sourcing her DOB though, your help is greatly appreciated, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:04, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
