Laurier Palace fire[edit]

The Laurier Palace fire is my first modification in Wikipedia. I was prompted to edit simply by noting an error in what I assume to be translation from French (the doors were opening, which I changed to "the doors opened".

However, as I had a large newspaper article with photo right next to me, I decided to add my supplementary info.

I couldn't find a place to enter my reference for the info (a major Montréal newspaper), so here it is:

La Presse (Montréal), samedi, 6 janvier, 2007, section Cinéma, page 13. The article is written by Marc Cassivi, marc.cassivi@lapresse.ca, who also refers to a book entitled La Saga des interdits, by Telesforo Tajuelo (co-author), edited by Libre Expression.

As for the last paragraph of the article, I have no info whatsoever about the admittance of children into cinemas if accompanied by adults, nor about the changed door policy. However, the first part of the paragraph seems confusing, given the accompanying info. How may I contact the original author to futher improve the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loïs C (talkcontribs) 19:36, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

A photo of the fire is available from The day newspaper of New London, connecticut Jan 11 1927 (available on google news[1]). I am mixed over adding the picture. The picture there is slighly grainy as well. Any thoughts on this? Ottawa4ever (talk) 18:59, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deaths: 77 or 78?[edit]

The article stated that 77 people had died. Same thing on the French wiki. The newspapers on the following days actually reported 77, but changed it to 78 a couple of days later, like here: [2] and here: [3] . According to this site [4], a 78th victim died 3 days later, but I didn't find a reliable source for this. The plaque that can be found today at Laurier Palace's former location states that 78 children lost their lives. I made the changes accordingly, especially since the previous version talked about 77 deaths before adding "of the dead 12 were crushed, 64 asphixiated; only 2 children actually died from the fire itself.", which make 78.
