no redirect to Deacon?[edit]

This should not redirect to Deacon. As that article states, 'In many traditions, the diaconate is a clerical office; in others, it is for laity.' Within the United Methodist Church, we have Lay Leaders, but no Deacons. Anyway, I am removing the redirect and putting in a poorly written placeholder. Feel free to improve! :-) Or, if you feel that I am in error, I would be glad to hear some counter arguments. PerlKnitter 12:26, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We have lay leaders, and even the Lay Leader in The United Methodist Church; we also have Deacons, and we always have had them. The difference is that our deacons are clergy. There are also deaconess, which we don't create anymore, who are (were) lay women who dedicated their lives to ministry.Chuckw-nj (talk) 05:48, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
