Name

[edit]

Why is Phung part of the article title when she doesn't use this part of her name? Proposal: move to Le Ly Hayslip. Badagnani 02:14, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... don't know if anyone is watching this page, but Badagnani is right. Per WP:NAME, it should be the most-recognizable version of her name. She is published as Le Ly Hayslip and credited in the movie as Le Ly Hayslip so that's certainly the most-recognizable. What's more, she herself does not use the Phung. --JayHenry 15:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that it says Phung because that was her father's surname. I remember in the book, several times people address her father as simply Phung. Like in Chinese, the surname comes first. Then she got married and dropped the Phung. Lady Galaxy 19:51, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that's correct. At the time of this discussion (last year) the article was located at "Phung Le Ly Hayslip". --JayHenry (talk) 23:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. I misread, I thought the person was asking why her birth name has Phung in it. Lady Galaxy 01:48, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All articles I've come across name her as Hiep Thi Le. Actio (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, now I've discovered that she died in 2017, which i swas going to add, but ther is in fact a superior wikipedia page under the name Hiep Thi Le. Help?

original name mistake

[edit]

She couldn't have been born "Phung Thi Le Ly Hayslip", so I changed it. FernNation 23:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

State assembly award

[edit]

The link to the San Diego Reader article seems to be dead. However, I found another article in the same website published in 2005 about her award being cancelled due to the efforts of a Vietnamese-American assemblyman[1]. DHN (talk) 23:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
