Distracting blank spaces

[edit]

Formatting that encases the framed table of contents in text, in just the way a framed map or image is enclosed within the text, is now available: {{TOCleft}} in the HTML does the job.

Blank space opposite the ToC, besides being unsightly and distracting, suggests that there is a major break in the continuity of the text, which may not be the case. Blanks in page layout are voids and they have meanings to the experienced reader. The space betweeen paragraphs marks a brief pause between separate blocks of thought. A deeper space, in a well-printed text, signifies a more complete shift in thought: note the spaces that separate sub-headings in Wikipedia articles.

A handful of thoughtless and aggressive Wikipedians revert the "TOCleft" format at will. A particularly aggressive de-formatter is User:Ed g2s

Missing word(s)

[edit]

There is a word or phrase missing from the second paragraph of the architecture section: "The striking parti-colored [missing word] is connected to ..." Athænara 17:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, PatHadley here. I'm the Wikipedian-in-Residence at York Museums Trust (project pages). We're just getting started with a major upload of lantern slides by Tempest Anderson, a pioneering vulcanologist based in York. The image category is here: Category:Images from the Tempest Anderson Collection. It needs a little tidying but already has some great images of Le-Puy-en-Velay and the surrounding areas. They were taken on a trip around 1885. There will be more than 300 images coming soon (hopefully at higher resolutions!). If you have any questions please let me know. I hope you find them useful! Tonbridge

[edit]

@Bmclaughlin9: - re your removal of the {{Tonbridge}} template with the comment "not relevant here" - I contend that as the twin town of Tonbridge, the template is relevant here. It's been on this article a long time now without previous challenge. Surely that shows that it is relevant? If there was a Le Puy template, I'd expect it to be on the Tonbridge article. Please reconsider your removal. Mjroots (talk) 19:34, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • That it may have been here a long time is not a valid argument. Sister cities are themselves a minor point and including this much in reference to a sister city is completely out of proportion to Tonbridge's relevance to Le-Puy-en-Velay. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 21:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
