The League of the Cross in America[edit]

Fred Howard's book, Wilbur and Orville: A Biography of the Wright Brothers, Ballantine Books, 1987, paperback, page 177-178, states "The occasion was the annual encampment at the college of the League of the Cross Cadets, a militant temperance organization of young men who dressed in military tunics and wide-brimmed campaign hats." This text refers not to a demonstration of flight by the Wright brothers, but by John Montgomery. This flight of his glider occurred in Santa Clara, California, on July 18, 1905. Montgomery was badly injured when the glider crashed and died soon after. The book gives a different date for the fatal flight than the WP page on Montgomery. However, the point here is that the League of the Cross had chapters in the United States and at least one in California. Thomas R. Fasulo (talk) 04:07, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
