I've always used this term in the idea of a more practical learning, under a constructivist aproach.

Heterodox?

Is learning-by-doing a heterodox concept in economics? It doesn't seem so. If not, why is this article in the category "heterodox economics"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cosfly (talk • contribs) 16:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

It's a mainstream concept. I'm not sure I want to remove the tag, it's possible that someone had something in mind, for instance its relationship to evolutionary economics which has heterodox aspects. Suggested additions to the article

There are a couple of things I would like to have seen in this article (but don't have the competence to write authoritatively about). Some examples of how learning by doing is realised in the production process would help bring it into context. There is no mention of the difference between experience curves and learning curves, nor of 'learning by searching' as a cause for the same effects. Finally, it would be nice to have a chart showing the learning curve of a specific technology (e.g. solar PV) could be plotted with historic cost data. Wogone (talk) 08:59, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

This also matches the other language versions of wikipedia, which describe the pedagogical concept under "learning by doing". Actually, the (pedagogical) concept is much older than the economical one, having been formulated by the founder of the Scout movement, Lord Baden-Powell, more than a century ago. --Daniel Roethlisberger (talk) 10:41, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Just to echo the observations from above on the missing pedagogical sense: The German article on "learning by doing" is all about the pedagogical origins of the concept by thinkers such as Friedrich Fröbel, Robert Baden-Powell John Dewey, Johann Amos Comenius, Simon Somerville Laurie, Henry Barnard,Francis Wayland Parker, Georg Kerschensteine.
