Leaside train station[edit]

I'm not sure when exactly passenger train service to Leaside ended, but I don't think the reference in this article (closure in 1970) is entirely accurate. Another source ^[1] says that the CPR didn't close Leaside as an Agency until 1973, and that a limited Toronto-Peterborough-Havelock commuter service continued to call at Leaside until the service was discontinued in 1982. This is consistent with a 1979 VIA Rail timetable that I have, which still shows Leaside as a stop on the Toronto-Havelock run. Passenger service at Leaside clearly did survive into the VIA Rail era, then, even if only for a short time. Considering that the station and any sign of it seemed to have vanished from existence, it's very interesting to know that trains stopped down the street from me up until 20 years ago. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ ^τ _¢ 17:10, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The station was on Village Station Road, off of Millwood Road, behind where the Esso station is today and near the hydro substation. It was the Village Station Restaurant for several years. I'm not sure when the building was demolished--sometime in the mid-1980s, I think, though I'd like to do some more research on that. The building itself is long gone, in any case. I think that some of the old station's concrete platforms are still there, but the site is still in use for CP freight operations, so going in for a closer look isn't necessarily a great idea.--IckyIckyPTangZoomBoing (talk) 21:46, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
