Nonsensical Sentence

[edit]

“Leather papers were often made up of a series of paper laminates which were forced into shape with a mold, while Lincrusta is a patented composite material, and Anaglypta is a simthat were not designed to look like leather wallpaper.”

Was this perhaps supposed to be “similar product” or some such? But then why is the verb plural? --Janko (talk) 11:54, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

As far as I can see Cuir de Cordoue is essentially another name for Leather wallpaper.

Most other languages have only one article for both. Leather wallpaper had no Wikidata referrals. I have now moved it to the Wikidata entry wich previously listed Cuir de Cordoue.

thanks, KaiKemmann (talk) 14:37, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It should be the other way around. The more recent article should be merged into the older one. The Wikidata referral should be reversed to the original situation. Kleon3 (talk) 22:24, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. Leather wallpaper seemed to the the more general term and I expected Cuir de Cordoue to be merged into this article. Hence the change of the Wikidata referral. If you prefer it the other way around, we can reverse the change, of course. KaiKemmann (talk) 14:31, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not familiar with the common practice on English Wikipedia; on Dutch Wikipedia the newer article must be merged into the older one. Also, leather wallpaper seems to be something different, a Victorian paper copy of leather wall hangings (Cuir de Cordue). Kleon3 (talk) 23:23, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You might be right that leather wallpaper is not actually made from leather but rather a reproduction of leather textures.
I was about to remove the merger proposal but read the article again and now I am not completely sure.
Maybe we'll leave the note for a little longer and see if anyone else can comment and clarify this question.

PS: The sentence "... and Anaglypta is a simthat were not designed to look like leather wallpaper." seems a little off. Is "simthat" a spelling mistake?
Support merge in the intially proposed direction (that is, from Cuir de Cordoue to Leather wallpaper). It seems that the term Cuir de Cordoue is an older name and now used (in English) only for historical and antique materials. Leather wallpaper is the broader topic, embracing also modern and American leather. The pages are sufficiently short that their combined size would not be problematic. In way the final page best matched the WP:CRITERIA for page names: Recognizability, Naturalness and Precision. Klbrain (talk) 14:43, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
