Production

[edit]

Most of the actors playing lead roles are newcomers. The producer and director were highly contented and happy with the performance of these newcomers . Parvathy Ratheesh , a really talented proven-artist of films like Madhura Naranga, Vaakku  etc was cast according to the requirement of the character “Lechmi” , where a fresh, winsome-face was in search for.  “Her naïve- curious eyes were what we were looking for in the character” remarked Sajeer Ahammed. Mr. Sajeer Ahammed has also enacted the role of a fun-loving , cheeky, audacious character named, Stephen in the movie.

Maanav,  who has also acted in some of the Malayalam and Tamil movies  has done an integral part in the movie. Deepu Parassala, a “ Comedy Star” fame has played the role of a whimsical and energetic character, Ikku in the movie. B.N. Shabeer, his second movie in acting career after LBW, has also displayed a notable performance in the film. Poloko Motlaleng, a Motswana, an African stage artist and the best buddy of Mr. Sajeer Ahammed,  was brought to this movie all the way from Botswana. “He complemented the character-outlook perfectly. His experience as a stage artist has made me bring him to our movie, and he proved to be the best choice. Poloko has also sung a rap for our movie. He really rocked !” said Sajeer Ahammed.

Biju Sopanam,  a renowned theatre-artiste-turned-television star, the ‘Uppum Mulakum’ fame, and a versatile actor from the Kavalam Narayana Panicker’s  Sopanam Theatre has done an outstanding performance in the movie.

Experienced actresses like Sethu Lekshmi and Moly Angamaly has also displayed unique and notable performances in the film. Master Faraaz , who has played remarkable characters in  Malayalam movies like Maheshintae Prathikaaram , Ayaal Sasi etc has done a distinct role in the movie . Master Jiyaaz, has  been newly introduced in the movie. The talented-handsome little fellow has played his part well. The other artists in “Lechmi”, most of them from the film and television industry have also played a major role in the successful completion of the movie.

Development

[edit]

The producer as well as an artist of the movie Mr. Sajeer Ahammed’s friendship with the director B.N.Shajeer Sha and with the artist Maanav has paved way for the development of the story into the movie “Lechmi”.  Various discussions were done from the beginning and proper screening and analysis were executed from time to time.

Working with their story,  B.N. Shajeer and Sajeer Ahammed, following their collaborating efforts on the film stated that the film will surely create a radical impact on the society as it centralizes extensively  on the pressing issues of women’s safety. Through the characters of the four “gentlemen”, the story points up the fact that humanity  has still not completely dissipated from our society. Parvathy Ratheesh, who plays the leading role in the film commented that the story has impressed her since it’s a female-oriented subject with a powerful pertinent message. It can be categorized as a thriller-whodunit type of movie. The crew strongly represents Lechmi as “a real family entertainer.”

Lechmi’s” shooting  commenced on 27th  of April 2017   at Thiruvananthapuram  and was completed on 4th of June 2017. The filming covered most of Thiruvananathapuram and Tamil Nadu border areas . Some crucial shots and song sequences were taken at Merryland and Chitranjali studios and at some places in and around Thiruvananthapuram.

Origin and Writing

[edit]

The director’s  fascination for morbidity and versatility is what drives the script. Lechmi is the director's second movie, first being LBW. After working on the script for quite a long time, B.N. Shajeer Sha and Sajeer Ahammed, the brains behind the movie, decided to move on with their subject. This gave a green-light status to the picturisation of Lechmi.

Horror-comedy is a genre which is not much explored in Mollywood. The director and producer has taken it as a challenge and set forth the sail to make the movie a grand success.  The movie seeks to elicit elevated heartbeats at different stages and assures to reach it’s heights at the climax. Here horror overlaps with fantasy, supernatural components and thriller genres. Stunt master Brucelee Rajesh has played an incredible role in giving the fight sequence a most thrilling and nerve-racking outlook . The eerie appearances of artists were made explicitly morbid and dreadful with the skill of the make-up artist Mr. Sreejith Kalai Arasu.

Rajesh Twinkle and Alice Cheevel were assigned with Art Direction and Sachin Krishna and Shinu carried out Costume Designing for the movie.
