Convicted Felon[edit]

Hi Wikipedians,

Should we mention that he is also a convicted felon (2.5 years of suspended sentence) in the lead paragraph? Wikipedia also labels a lot of prominent Americans as felons for sentences of more than 1 year. It seems unfair if we have a double standard for South Korean felons. I don't want to edit just yet because I want to know what y'all think. Thanks.

RealIK17, some say might say the problem is with the Americans article not this one. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 18:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Jae-yong as Vice President or Chariman[edit]

User:MrOllie you keep adding back a statement saying "When he resumed serving his prison sentence in January 2021, however, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that Lee was still Samsung's "Vice-Chairman.""

In fact ABC's report is from the same day as he was sentenced, not after he resumed serving it like the edit claimed: A South Korean court has sentenced Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong to two-and-a-half years in prison, the court said.

It makes it look like the corporation is contradicting someone who claimed he wasn't holding the position anymore. But it doesn't "report" anything about him being being removed contrary to other news reports which claim he was (which don't exist). So how is it "reporting he is still Vice Chairman" when he was ALWAYS Vice Chairman?

However I have seen no source saying he wasn't the Vice Chairman (or Vice President) of Samsung after he was imprisoned. Neither there seems to be any South Korean law against imprisoned people holding business positions.

In fact sources after his imprisonment, including South Korean ones, still called him as Vice President or Vice Chairman of Samsung: [1], [2], [3], [4]

So there's no point in you restoring the edit because Australian Broadcasting Corporation was not the only one saying he is the Vice Chairman or President after his imprisonment and no one ever claimed he wasn't holding the position, ABC wasn't "reporting" anything. And as already said, ABC's report is from the same day as his sentence. Now can you please stop restoring it? 59.91.226.162 (talk) 17:39, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It was important enough for the news media to write about it, so it is important enough to be in the Wikipedia article. We are not supposed to substitute our own judgment for that of the sources. MrOllie (talk) 17:48, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MrOllie What do you mean write about it? They just said he is the Vice Chairman which he was. It's usual to mention someone's important position in news. We are not supposed to sit in our own judgement you say, but you are deriving your own conclusions. Again who said Lee isn't the Vice Chairman and who exactly is ABC contradicting? Besides you have broken 3RR so please self-revert [5]. 59.91.226.162 (talk) 17:54, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also btw even in 2017 Lee was said to be Vice Chairman when he was sentenced originally. This is nothing new, read this source from 2017: [6]. Stop adding your own conclusions and stop edit warring. This is your 4th revert in 24 hours. 59.91.226.162 (talk) 17:59, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I switched to a better source, I trust this addresses your complaints. Also, you should recount those reverts. - MrOllie (talk) 19:24, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. It's much better. And I apologize for the error. I accidentally counted your restoration of his return to jail as separate, my mind had blanked. 59.91.226.162 (talk) 19:52, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– The businessman seems to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. The page Lee Jae-yong should be turned into Lee Jae-yong (disambiguation) PhotographyEdits (talk) 10:45, 26 August 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 16:23, 2 September 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 08:01, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment There does not seem to be any opposition. I think it could simply moved as a technical request, like it was originally done. PhotographyEdits (talk) 11:46, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
