LOZOWICK'S MASTER-SLAVE SYSTEM.

It would not be a bad idea to mention in the article that Lee Lozowick had a master-slave approach to "teaching" students. He had an assistant, Paul, who required persons interested in meeting Lozowick or hearing him speak in person to first buy lots of books by Lozowick and read them. After that, they had to demonstrate their grasp of these books. Theoretically, you could meet Lozowick after going through this if Paul was personally satisfied that you were good slave material. Persons interested in meeting Lozowick had to first demonstrate that they would unquestioningly do everything Paul told them to do. (If he told you to buy a number of books, he expected you to buy them--or to go away and never come back.) After that, Paul might decide that they were capable of unquestioningly doing everything Lozowick told them to do. That would lead Paul to possibly letting you meet or listen to Lozowick in person. I explained to Paul that some of the material he wanted me to read was in a local university library, and I would examine this material. In fact, I had read some of it before writing to Lozowick. Oddly, Paul thought it abhorrent that anyone would obtain these books from the library, rather than the from the company run by or associated with Lozowick. If Paul told you to buy, and not borrow, numerous books, he expected you to buy, and not borrow them--or to go away and never come back. I found these conditions quite suspicious. It is highly unusual for a teacher or guru in the Hindu or Hindu-bhakti tradition (which was the tradition of his teacher) or the Baul tradition to impose conditions of this sort before you can meet or hear a teacher. After expressing his contempt for those who use the library to learn about Lozowick's teachings, Paul cracked a few jokes; then in response I cracked a few jokes; then in response Paul said I was a bad "fit" for meeting or hearing Lozowick, and then stopped replying to me. Lozowick had struck me, from the materials by or about him I had seen in the library or on the internet, as an interesting and qualified teacher. I couldn't believe that any qualified, authentic teacher would allow a person like Paul to prevent potential students from meeting or listening to the teacher in person. Paul had a bizarre eagerness to find some excuse for preventing people from learning from Lozowick. However, shortly after Paul stopped writing me, I managed to make contact with Lozowick himself, who emailed me in July, 2010 (just a few months before he died, as it turned out), as follows: "It is obvious from your net-postings that you are using your intelligence and righteousness to defend yourself from and to avoid any degree of self-awareness or self-honesty about your deep fear and pain and suffering. So...I'm confused - why me? and, being as clearly disturbed as you are - why not therapy?" I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this. I had indeed posted a few items on the net (a device which Lozowick has stated publicly that he despises), but nothing I had posted would give any reasonable person the slightest reason to think that any of the things Lozowick had said about me were true. I carefully reread all my "net-postings" and simply couldn't imagine what Lozowick was talking about. I had indeed expressed some criticisms of someone, but they were perfectly reasonable criticisms and were written in a clear, thoughtful, and sober manner. Nothing in the postings would lead any reasonable person to make the remarks Lozowick had made. I wrote back and asked Lozowick to identify the net-posting(s) he was referring to. He did not reply--he was incapable of identifying any such postings as would lead him to make the remarks he had made. As I suspected, he had simply fabricated the net-postings claim as an excuse for viciously abusing me--just for kicks. At that point, it became clear why Paul had acted as he had: Lozowick couldn't stand being around anyone who wasn't willing to become Lozowick's personal slave, that is, a person who would do everything Lozowick told him to do, who would not mind being viciously abused by Lozowick just so that Lozowick could have some fun, and who would not have the ability to think clearly or think for himself. Paul was doing just the right thing--screening people carefully so as not to let anyone near Lozowick unless they were good slave material.70.182.156.197 (talk) 14:43, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
