County hall
[edit]I've spectacularly failed to find out where (and even if there was one) County Hall was prior to the one at Glenfield. I can't think of any obvious buildings - the best I can come up with in the Times archive is the Conway Buildings, which are given as an address for the County Treasurer (this now apparently used by the City Council) Morwen - Talk 19:51, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- According to a legal notice they inserted in the London Gazette on September 9, 1966 their adress was County Buildings, Grey Friars, Leicester
Lozleader 21:29, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- That corresponds: Conway Buildings are at Greyfriars, also. Morwen - Talk 22:19, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
IPA Pronunciation
[edit]The current IPA pronunciation of ˈlɛstəʃə seems incorrect ('lesta-sha'). Locally it is pronounced 'lesta-sheer', which I think should be IPA: 'lɛstəʃɪər. Can anyone who knows more than me about IPA (shouldn't be difficult) confirm this? Thanks. --Michig 14:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Both British RP and the English Midlands accent are non-rhotic, ie they don't add an extra "r" sound at the end of syllables (from their viewpoint of course). So ˈlɛstəʃə ('lesta-sha') or ˈlɛstəʃɪə ('lesta-shia') are both correct. LDHan 23:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
GCSE Results
[edit]Can it be clarified which year are these relating to, and where are they sourced from?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.50.184.130 (talk • contribs).
- I have added a tag to this effect. If no references are provided, the information can be deleted.--Michig 12:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- The figures come from the DCSF website. The DCSF provides results by district for any 5 GCSEs passed A-C, which I think is unreliable and optimistic, so I compiled a table of results using the DCSF results for 5 GCSEs including English and Maths. The table you see on the Leicestershire page is more truthful than the DCSF's set of tables. I'm doing you a favour, but sometimes the truth hurts. DinosaursLoveExistence 19:18, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- If you have a reliable source for the figures, please add it to the section as a reference. Thanks.--Michig 19:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Districts map
[edit]The Oadby and Wigston and Harborough districts are labelled the wrong way round on the the map of districts. --Ebz 15:05, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have corrected this - thanks for pointing it out.--Michig 15:13, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Leicestershire and Rutland project
[edit]I am seeking opinions on the setting up of a Leicestershire and Rutland project.
At its minimum, it is a good way of grouping articles, making it easier to maintain and improve them. With a few active members, it can become a useful area for localised discussion.
I am not specifically recruiting members at this stage. I am just seeing how much interest there is, and if editors think a project would be a worthwhile resource. ++ MortimerCat (talk) 14:26, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- I certainly think it would be worth the effort. Even if it wasn't particularly active, I like your idea of having a more effective way of grouping together articles than categories. Hoefully, a project would be active though. Nev1 (talk) 14:38, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- I've started making one. Wilbysuffolk Talk to me 10:38, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Flag
[edit]WM Commons has three images of this flag which has no fox in it: perhaps it should be included.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 07:39, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
- However it belongs to the Leicestershire County Council rather than the county itself.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 08:01, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, the flag in the infobox is the county council's banner of arms. Leicestershire doesn't have a registered flag (yet). --Inops (talk) 17:20, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Parishes project
[edit]I have started a project for missing civil parishes at User:Crouch, Swale/Missing parishes. The missing parishes in Leicestershire are:
- Bardon (parish)
- Bitteswell with Bittesby
- Glenfields, Leicestershire
- Knossington and Cold Overton
- Stonebow Village
- Tilton on the Hill and Halstead
- Waltham and Thorpe Arnold
And these exists as a redirect only but should have separate articles:
A total of 9, see User:Crouch, Swale/Missing parishes (2)#Leicestershire. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:21, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
