Despite the immense regard in which he was held, and the unique (and useful) nature of his handbook, there seems not to have been a proper obituary in newspapers such as the Times, Guardian etc, or even the publications of the Royal Society of Chemistry (which is really surprising). I have done what I can with the limited information available to me. I believe that he received some other awards. If anyone has better sources, please add in the information.
