"Hey, Dinger!"[edit]

In August 2021, there was an incident during a Marlins/Rockies game in Colorado where microphones picked up chatter from a fan that sounded a lot like the n word. An investigation of the incident by the Rockies concluded that the fan was trying to get the attention of Dinger (mascot), the Rockies mascot. Brinson commented on it, saying he heard it as the slur. Does this incident meet the WP:LASTING/WP:10YT for inclusion beyond WP:NOTNEWS? – Muboshgu (talk) 19:45, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Misrepresentation of sources[edit]

What the article says just now, about "Dinger" and has been repeatedly reverted back to, is not only a misrepresentation of what Brinson said, but also a misrepresentation of what the sources say. The editor repeating these edits either does not understand the sources, hasn't read them, or is interpreting them to say what they want them to say.

To begin with, and most obviously, nowhere in the sources does Brinson "demand" that the mascot's name should be changed. So that's false for a start.

Secondly, nowhere do the sources say that Brinson "continues to falsely insist". (a word that the Wikipedia style guide says should be avoided). After the explanation Brinson accepts the explanation, and apologies to the fan, but says he still hears the offending word. Note the distinction. he says he hears the word, not that the word was said. And if you actually read the sources, that is what is discussed. Maybe he's trying to back-track, because he's embarrassed about the whole misunderstanding. But he is not continuing to insist that he was racially insulted. Indeed, he specifically says he has never been in a game.

"But this does happen in our game. I don't know if a lot of people know this. Again personally, I've never been called that ... but I know a lot of Black players have and it's disgusting"

But this is something he has experienced.

"We do get called the n-word on social media."

Accusing Brinson of making false claims, unsupported by the sources, is a violation of Wikipedia biography of living persons policies, and will be removed on sight. Do not put this back in. Escape Orbit ^(Talk) 20:54, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
