River name in English?

[edit]

Are we sure that "Du Lièvre" River is the correct english name? Du is French for Of, the name translates "word for word" as Rivere of Hare, the name in English would be Hare River, or perhaps River of the Hare, if English names were allowed in Québec. This is not the case of a "surname" with Du/De/La/Le in it, like "De Maisonneuvë Boulevard" which is named after Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, but for the animal that are prevalent in the area. Lièvre River would be more appropriate. Most other Québec river articles are named with the French name, this articles needs to either conform with that naming convention, or use an English translation that is correct. (ie: Rivière du Lièvre, Hare River or Lièvre River) Because of precedent and "Québec Naming Laws", the first should be chosen, however my personal choice would be the latter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by UnQuébécois (talkcontribs) 14:44, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would have thought so, however the English version of the Charter of the City of Gatineau uses the name "Du Lièvre River". — P.T. Aufrette (talk) 00:03, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
