Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose to merge Callobatrachus and Mesophryne into Liaobatrachus as these taxa are considered as synonymous on Fossilworks. Loopy30 (talk) 20:00, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Merged. Loopy30 (talk) 00:16, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose @Loopy30: Per the most recent paper published on the matter [1] (page 2)

...another nominal taxon (Liaobatrachus Ji and Ji, 1998) from the Yixian Formation is here treated as a nomen dubium (but see Dong et al., 2013), because the poorly preserved holotype specimen (GMV 2126) provides insucient information to permit recognition of this as a dis-tinct species. Dong et al. (2013) provided a taxonomic revision of the Jehol fossil frogs, in which the three taxa (Callobatrachus, Mesophryne, and Yizhoubatrachus) were grouped collectively in a single genus and were synonymized with Liaobatrachus. is revision, however, remains conten-tious and is not supported by a recent phylogenetic analysis (Chen et al., 2016). Here we treat the three Jehol frogs as independent taxa and keep their original names

Given the taxonomic uncertainty, it's probably better to reseparate them. Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:48, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, agreed. There are several other recent papers that also consider that these taxa are separate as well. Un-merge away! Loopy30 (talk) 23:25, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
