Requested move 25 July 2020[edit]

The result of the move request was: No consensus. One input relates to dropping 'magnet' from the title, the other is in opposition to the move in general. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:17, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Magnet High School → ? – Multiple sources say that the rename was to "Liberty High School," but many of the school's pages, including the website, Twitter, Facebook, and logo, were re-branded as "Liberty Magnet High School." reppoptalk 23:07, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't include "Magnet" unless independent reliable sources use that consistently (and from a quick look at the headlines of the cited sources, they don't). —BarrelProof (talk) 04:59, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. When was this rebranding done? It looks recent, and if so it is probably premature. The nomination seems entirely based on primary sources, which have little relevance. We need to wait until recent secondary sources generally adopt a new name, and if and when this happens (and it may not) then go with whichever version of the name they adopt. • @Andrewa: The school board voted to rename the school on July 16 as "Liberty High School",[1][2][3][4] with the website, Twitter, and Facebook being re-branded to "Liberty Magnet High School" after July 16 to July 22. As far as I know, only the signage at the school hasn't been updated yet, but the superintendent said that it will happen before August 6.[5][6] (If that answers your question). reppoptalk 02:34, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thank you, Reppop. But those all seem to be primary sources, and the rebranding is indeed recent. A primary source is one closely associated with the subject... If the information comes from the subject, then its usage on Wikipedia is not completely banned but is very restricted. In choosing an article name we go almost entirely by secondary sources. This is hard for some people to understand; Officers of a corporation, for example, often call us all sorts of nasty names if we don't action their requests to rename articles concerning their corporation immediately that a corporate rebranding becomes official. But that's our policy, and while we do also have a policy that allows us to ignore the article naming policy if it improves Wikipedia to do so, this is for the occasional exception. And this doesn't seem an exceptional case to me. Wait until secondary sources appear, as I hope they will shortly, and I expect the move will then go ahead without controversy.
