Lifetimes (Katy Perry song)Lifetimes (song)

It's better to request a move than to make a quick redirect, since this established article already has a history of edits. And the other existing article doesn't really have a history of edits, just some quick redirects and categories. Is it Juan? (talk) 20:14, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support. The Sheryl Crow song doesn't seem notable. HappyWith (talk) 20:25, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support the move. I also believe that, if this is done, the following hatnote should be added: Bizarre BizarreTalk modern to me 19:05, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a point in that note when the song itself has no article and doesn't warrant one, plus these aren't the only two tracks to have that title. There's a song of the same name by Slam which also has no page and I also doubt it would qualify for one in the foreseeable future. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:50, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The hatnote should be something like {{For|other songs with similar names|Lifetime (disambiguation){{!}}Lifetime}}. Topics do not need to be the main subject of an article in order to merit a disambiguation hatnote. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:45, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per the nominator's rationale and the above discussion. This is the only song with this title that has an article so the additional disambiguation is not necessary. I think a hat note could be helpful, but I believe the more general one would be more beneficial than one specifically for the Sheryl Crow song. Aoba47 (talk) 23:25, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently (per this revert), SNUGGUMS continues to disagree with the need for a hatnote. I may not follow up further on that issue immediately, but I think the hatnote is needed. As far as I know, there is no Wikipedia policy or guideline that says a topic needs to be the main subject of an article in order to merit a hatnote, and in fact WP:DAB explicitly says otherwise in its opening sentence. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:28, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My removal actually had nothing to do with whether this is a primary topic; I specifically said in the linked edit summary that the other songs have no articles in the first place. With that in mind, pointing towards a DAB that has no other "Lifetimes" song links is pointless. In fact, aside from a LifeTimes album article, all of the entries that merit pages are instead titled "Lifetime", so I'm not convinced there's any benefit of pointing to a bunch of things that use singular form instead of plural. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:44, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Did you miss the part of the opening sentence of WP:DAB that refers to "a subtopic covered by an article in addition to the article's main topic", or these two other "Lifetimes" songs listed on the Lifetime page?
  • "Lifetimes", a 2001 track by Slam
  • "Lifetimes", a 2005 song by Sheryl Crow from Wildflower

That applies more to DAB page listings than it does linking to a DAB on other articles. Had either of those other songs warranted articles, we could just use their individual links instead, and for what it's worth I wouldn't recommend listing names with plural form on a page that mainly focuses on the singular form. We'd be better off just using a link to the album I mentioned earlier when that actually has its own page and I highly doubt anybody would be more likely to first search for tracks that don't even merit their own pages. Just a hatnote to Lifetimes (Katy Perry song) will do. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:59, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That term now redirects to here after the page was renamed. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 14:29, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oops I meant Wildflower (Sheryl Crow album), as there only appears to be that other song a link to the DAB page is probably not needed unless a distingish is needed from the singular as there are other songs in the singular. Crouch, Swale (talk) 15:21, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
