Merger

[edit]

I don't think clach-ultaich will ever be more than a tiny stub. I guess I moved it there too quickly some time ago. I'd like to propose merging it back into Lifting stones, perhaps with geographical sections on Iceland, Scotland etc? Akerbeltz (talk) 21:12, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok merged. Akerbeltz (talk) 12:28, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if the Ardblair Stones are related to Ardblair Castle, but here is a video - maybe a backtrace can reveal a useful link to include an external link. TGCP (talk) 22:24, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Distance from Reykjavík to Húsafell

[edit]

@Ehrenkater Hello, with refer to the distance, here is the google maps result: 1 hr 57 min (133.0 km) via Þjóðvegur (https://www.google.com/search?q=reykjavik+to+husafell&oq=Reykjav%C3%ADk+to+husaf&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i22i30.6777j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) I also have a friend who drove from Reykjavik Airport (RKV) to the location of the stone pen and his distance was also a very close 132 km. That's why I mentioned that. Could you please evaluate and remove the citation required command? Thanks for the support. Nir007H (talk) 15:37, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nir007H. I've looked at the Google Maps result that you linked. The main reason for the different figures is that your figure is the distance by road, rather than as the crow flies. Distances quoted are usually the direct distance, and any different basis would need to be qualified in the article. Incidentally, I'm a little surprised that your friend flew to RKV rather than to the main international airport KEF. Thanks. Ehrenkater (talk) 17:09, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ehrenkater so isn't it better to mention the road distance rather than the linear displacement since the first is more useful for a traveler? When you check for the distance what do you usually check: the distance or displacement? My friend is from Iceland and he lives walking distance away from the RKV. Thanks for the support to remove the citation required command. Nir007H (talk) 22:38, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also why do you think I used the IATA code? I know that KEF is 51 km away from Reykjavík and what we need here is the distance from Reykjavík to Húsafell, not Keflavik to Húsafell. Thanks. Nir007H (talk) 22:54, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nir007H. As I said, distances quoted here are usually as the crow flies. If any user feels that it is useful to state the distance by road, then of course they can do so, provided they explain what they have done, to avoid confusing the reader. It is all about clarity.
I don't doubt that you know the difference between KEF and RKV. As it happens, when I visited Iceland I stayed for a couple of nights in HÍ accommodation on Suðurgata, so I know where RKV is too. :)
All the best. Ehrenkater (talk) 06:39, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Take care and all the best. Nir007H (talk) 19:54, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Lundstrom Stones into Lifting stone

[edit]

Lundstrom Stones was previously merged to Lifting stone#Lundstrom Stones. The Lundstrom Stones lack significant coverage in reliable sources. I propose restoring the previous merge. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Voorts, Kindly requesting an extended grace period to develop Lundstrom Stones further. The organizations who own the historical stone https://www.instagram.com/newenglandstonelifting/?hl=en and https://www.instagram.com/fort4fest/?hl=en will be putting up more events and more global exposure will follow. Nir007H (talk) 00:17, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion will be open for at least 7 days, but likely longer. The goal is to have other editors comment here as well to try and determine the Stones's notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 00:19, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nir007H: I still think the article doesn't meet WP:GNG. How do you feel about merging? voorts (talk/contributions) 00:36, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Voorts I do believe the content in the specific article is too much for it to appear under the main article, without disrupting the main articles' allocated priority for each stone. Could you grant me something like until next summer? More competitions and exposure are coming up and I'm determined to develop both Lundstrom Stones and Ardblair Stones further. Many thanks for your continuous support. Nir007H (talk) 00:46, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
