I'm studying the CCNP BCMSN course and LWAPP is not the control protocol it is a tunneling method/protocol to allow the LAP's to connect to the WLC's. The Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) is the name of the server application presenting a GUI to cover the functions mentioned in this article.

Comments?

Well, I'm currently not studying CCNP, but I was currently sniffing the traffic, between APs and WLC, and while it also provides the tunneling as you said, it is also used to control the APs.
It seems like almost all (or all?) communication between WLC and AP is through that protocol. So I think the "control" is a right term. 131.179.144.190 (talk) 20:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is old, but lol: "it's not a control protocol, it's a protocol to allow communication with the controller". Think about that for a moment.... --173.252.44.52 (talk) 04:47, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some edits and added some links to/from other articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.2.106.229 (talk) 06:52, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have used 3Com's AP controller and sniffer tags the control protocol as 'LWAPP'; don't know if there are the same.--水水 (talk) 03:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
