I live in the United Kingdom and was wondering. The current Copyright Law in the UK is The Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 and Sound recordings are legible for Copyright, but in the Copyright of many books, websites and so on, and so on state that one is permitted to download the content for one's own personal non-commercial use, so I believe it should be allowed for a certain period and the got rid of or bought, like a trail period. However, if someone has the exact copy of the CD for example are they allowed to download it from P2P softwares?

Limewire pro

[edit]

If we buy the version of Limewire Pro, can we still update the program? such as from 4.12.4 to 4.12.6 --MarioV 21:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, From what I am aware of. By 68.168.132.199 20:29, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
on their website it says you get 6 months of updates for free before you have to pay again.
[edit]

To lazy now to check if the alledged august 8 BBC report sentence was inserted by a "RIAA toadies IP adress", but if you visit the BBC site it clearly says "Last Updated: Friday, 12 May 2006, 12:53 GMT 13:53 UK" so it's definetly NOT reported one day after the RIAA sued Limewire! I did not want to delete or correct it. May an Admin do it. (sorry forgot to sign) Pictureupdater 00:04, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hash Values

[edit]

Someone should post hash values of limewire free and limewire pro that were downloaded from limewire's site along with version number, so this way people can verify things

I've removed this again. Wikipedia is not Download.com. Chris Cunningham 08:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Different Versions of Limewire.

[edit]

What are the differences among Limewire Pro, Limewire 5.5, Limewire 7.0, Limewire 2006 and Limewire 2007? -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.254.114.84 (talkcontribs)

Limewire Pro comes without ads and has more speed with downloads. Limewires 5.5, 7.0, Limewire Plus etc. are just improved versions of the basic software. Bearly451 talk 05:47, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any "LimeWire" software that is downloaded from a site other than limewire.com is a scam. LimeWire PRO is at version 4.13 right now. This is the only official version. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.254.98.153 (talk) 20:00, 5 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Malware and Limewire

[edit]

"On May 12, 2006, the BBC reported that "Limewire" and "Lime wire" were respectively the fifth and seventh most likely search terms to return links to malware from an Internet search engine.[6]"

This quote from the Wikipedia article on Limewire is ambiguous. The full article from the BBC gives more detail on the issue of malware associated with Limewire:

"The riskiest search terms were associated with downloads (such as "screensavers" and "free ringtones") and file-sharing (such as "Bearshare" and "limewire"). Searching under these categories returned a substantial proportion of dangerous sites."

In other words, it is not that the Limewire website or the software itself exposes users to malware. It is that top search results which contain the terms "Limewire" and "Lime wire" contain malware. Limewire itself has no direct influence on these sites.

The article should be updated to clarify this point.

Should be sourced where the software is illegal in UK and US. Bearly451 talk 05:46, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

[edit]

"Written in the Java programming language, LimeWire runs on any computer with a Java Virtual Machine installed, but may contain viruses. it can cause harm to your computer. some people say it is safe but it is harmful To facilitate " WTF guys lean how to write. Please clean up more.

Beta

[edit]

4.13.0 is a beta and not officially released. I think we should change it back to 4.12.6: The Man Himself 13:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. V4.13.0 should be mentioned in the article but it should not be listed as 'latest release': 65.102.190.206 21:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Denver AG & Identity theft

[edit]

I removed the section about the Denver attorney general's warning about identity theft because it isn't notable, nor does it apply to LimeWire anymore than any other filesharing program. Oasisbob 00:57, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The top search results are also just a few kb and are the most likely to contain viruses and malware and are often file type exe. People should realise that 22kb can't be an mp3 or video or an exe.--JoePointer 17:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? 22 kB can be anything. It's usually not the kind of stuff people are looking for but that's a completely different issue. This "P2P is dangerous" blather is utter propaganda bullshit. The web and email are just as dangerous or even worse because people have a false sense of trustworthy sites/senders. Nobody claims there aren't viruses to be downloaded on P2P networks but that's completely irrelevant in any context whatsoever that anyone could ever think of. --82.141.48.127 19:52, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LimeWire Pro Screenshot

[edit]

The screenshot shown on the article is using the black skin of Windows XP. I think it is better to use one using the ORDINARY skin of XP, given that most of us use that anyway. Insanephantom 14:03, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
