Linus "dug up the neigborhood"

In the second paragraph under Security Blanket it says that Linus dug up the neighborhood looking for his blanket. Unless the search involved digging literally it would be more encyclopedic to say "Linus searched the neighborhood." Because there is no citation, I am unable to research this easily. I made the change but if somebody with more knowledge knows that dig is correct please change it back. JeremiahJohnson (talk) 05:23, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Linus literally did dig up the neighborhood on January 17 and January 18, 1961, so I've changed "searched the neighborhood" to "literally dug up the neighborhood" to avoid future confusion. The strips may be viewed online at GoComics.com.

Linus on the meaning of Christmas

Possibly, the thing the character Linus is most famous for is having read from the Bible to explain the meaning of Christmas on network television. ("A Charlie Brown Christmas") Perhaps this article should expand on that a little, giving the scriptural reference of Linus's most famous quotation. I am replying literally ten years later! But, I came to this page to say the very same thing. Linus's speech in which he quotes the Scriptures in A Charlie Brown Christmas should be mentioned in this article. It is one of his most well-known moments. Thanks. Joseph A. Eye Patch

I seem to recall that Linus had an eye condition and had to wear an eye patch for a while. I think it was Lazy Eye. I remember Snoopy would always try to steal his eye patch and when Linus was finally cured he gave Snoopy the eye patch and Snoopy could finally play pirate. RepSchnell 01:11, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Sally, yeah, it could have been her. It's been so long since I've read those old strips. It would also fit nicely with her fear of Snoopy and his dog germs and now Snoopy was harrasing her for her eyepatch. Wish I still had those old books. RepSchnell 00:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't remeber Linas with an eye patch, although in the early `60's he did wear glasses for a while, and Snoopy would try and steal the glasses. These glasses strip were not reporduced that much. But it might be that Linus' brother Rerun had an eye patch. As his name suggests he did re do some of the stuff that Linas and the others had done before. Djarra 15:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if the "Welcome Great Pumpkin" picture is the best title picture for Linus. After all, it is not his most prominent focus in the strip. A picture of him hold his blanket would be a better choice. Terwilliger44 (talk) 03:42, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

In a interview Charles Schults stated that Linus Van Pelt was his favorite character to work with. Duplicated Section

The section of the article "Crushes and admirers" is duplicated, almost word for word, save for a minor detail . I was going to delete one of the sections but decided to do "CTRL F" first to see if I would possibly need to combine the two sections instead. I discovered that the top "crushes and admirers" says "school teacher, Miss Othmar, who later marries and becomes Mrs. Hagemeyer," while the bottom one says "his school teacher, Miss Othmar, who is later replaced by Mrs. Hagemeyer." Obviously, these have very different meanings, because the one says the Miss Othmar became Mrs. Hagemeyer after getting married, and the other says she was replaced by Mrs. Hagemeyer. Neither is sourced so I can't tell which one is correct. Also, the images and image text is duplicated in this section. SpidersMilk, Drink Spider Milk, it tastes good. The claim that Linus likes using the Sacco chair is not backed up by the cited source, which claims that Lucy likes it and mentions that Lucy is Linus's sister, but does not claim his use. A few points on Linus

• It would be good to mention Linus plays shortstop on Charlie Brown's neighborhood baseball team and, along with Snoopy, is one of the two best players.
• The great pumpkin is not just a standin for a confused for Santa Claus but often an allegory for bad religious practices such as insecure faith and blind stubbornness. He explained this in a response to a letter from a woman complaining about him.
• The Van Pelts at one point moved away only to have Schulz write them back in, coming back after reader complaints. This was very noteworthy at the time.
• I'd like to see if there's evidence that Linus moved up a grade which seems to be implied. Schulz himself skipped a grade as a child and felt desperate loneliness on the playground as he didn't play with kids his own age or in his class. This is a source of many strips.
• Lucy sometimes complains bitterly about wishing she were an only child and resents Linus for it (mentioned with the birth of Rerun). Schulz himself was an only child (as is Peppermint Patty whom, like Schulz himself, lost her mother when she was young).
• The security blanket section is very long but it's not mentioned that the term "Security Blanket" was adopted by psychologists inspired from the strip as the metaphor for people, especially young children, clinging to concepts and objects.
