Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it fulfills notability guidelines per WP:PERSON in that there is an entry for Sir Lionel Barnett Abrahams in ODNB.snood1205(Say Hi! (talk)) 21:08, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Simply stating "who was mostly notable for his work in India" without further explanation of how he was notable, and not giving "significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject" fails WP:BASIC. Entry in the ODNB is an indicator towards notability, but as per WP:ANYBIO that is not an absolute indication of notability. --John B123 (talk) 21:46, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have added significant content, largely from the IDB source already cited, and have added some other sources. I have made a request on WP:RX for the full text of the ODNB entry. I found a source that says that Abrahams served as a mentor to John Maynard Keynes on Indian finance (http://ccgi.nehoc.plus.com/Sitters/sittersa-d.html) but I am not sure if it is a reliable source. That source also says "He ‘was among the first consciously to implement the gold exchange standard, which enabled countries to settle their external accounts in major currencies, helping thereby to reduce their dependence on gold and expand world trade. India became a pioneer of this new system when the rupee was placed on it at the turn of the century, and during the next few years Abrahams perfected the type of management and intervention the gold exchange standard required to make its working mimic the gold standard’." If this is reliable, it pretty clearly establishes notability. It seems to be quoting, perhaps from the ODNB entry. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 20:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC) @Snood1205 and John B123:. There is also a passing mention in The Jewish Encyclopedia which lists him as a "community worker" but gives no detail.
