In coming to this article, I found the lede to inadequately reflect the full content of the article.

Moreover, in several respects, especially with regard to historical biographical content on the title subject's training, this article appears to be the work of an individual or individuals too closely associated with the subject. A clear example of this is the earlier gratuitous over-presentation of the accolades of the scientists with whom the title subject trained. Some of this was reduced, but the problem still needs a closer editorial look.

In addition, in these sections, there was/is over-presentation of primary scientific sources to make broad biographical claims, for which primary sources alone cannot be the basis.

For instance, the following sentence was supported not by one source, sourcing the actual, simple contention of the sentence, but by 16 primary sources listing all of the papers to which the title subject contributed; as a result, the content of the sentence was not directly supported by the source, though the sentence was made to appear to be thoroughly sourced (by virtue of the many citations appearing). Search "Staiano" in this page, to see that every of the 16 sources listed for the three professors who trained the title subject, are not to independent secondary sources on those professors, but rather to largely primary sources written by the title subject.

This source list content is moved both to Further reading, and to here, for later better placement in the article in an appropriate way (e.g., as a formal bullet list of scientific publications, and not in faux support of a biographical sentence):

As noted, this plethora of only tangentially related primary sources unsupportive of the actual text point were moved to "Further reading," as were a few additional cases; however, this issue seems to be extensive, and the matter of addressing it was not completed.

Also, on beginning to check citations, it was also clear that the sources were being presented by someone emphasizing the title subject, rather than following the standard rules of WP citations; for this reason, material from the "title" field that was actually quoting text containing the title subject's name was moved from this field, into the "quote" field, and that university citation was otherwise made standard. This problem is pervasive, as the same general citation appears repeatedly, but for different years, to substantiate different points. Hence this issue could not be resolved in this editing session.

In addition, a variety of other issues related to the promotional and non-encyclopedic presentation have begin to be addressed, including the uses of prose to indicate time, such as "current," "then-," and "now", all of which found were edited, and noted with a [when?] tag until the actual relevant dates can be added (so the text is not outdated when these marginally important faculty appointments change.

In short, it appears that substantial portions of this article were constructed by a person with intimate knowledge of the title subject—if not the title subject herself, then a staff member or former trainee—as judged by overuse of the primary sources of the title subject, and heavy reliance of university versus third-party documentation. The issues that remain, including the use of primary sources, are tagged, as is the need for an expert at WP biography, to make the article fully independent and encyclopedic.

Better substantiation required for controversy-suggesting statement

[edit]

The following sentence appears with a link that is to the home page of the periodical, and not to a specific article. Web search for the article was unsuccessful, Because, absent this traceability, the statement is unsourced, and regards accusations of a BLP subject, and has other dubious aspects (i.e., p. 880, in a daily newspaper?), it is moved here until the statement can be fully sourced and verified:

According to an article in The Cornell Daily Sun, the year Staiano-Coico began her tenure at Human Ecology, she was placed under investigation for potential breaches of ethical behavior.[1]

Please return this to the article, in the Career section, for this time period, but only after providing a source that is active and traceable. Le Prof 73.211.138.148 (talk) 16:35, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
